Dive into the mysterious world of Encyclopedia Brown—where every chapter is a mystery and readers must read closely, observe every detail, and think carefully to discover the story’s fun and surprising answers. Each meeting, we will learn how to read for answers (critical thinking), read for stronger understanding (comprehension), discuss our theories on the solution to the mystery, follow along with the clues we may have missed, and explore the solutions to see how the story comes together as the mystery is solved!

What Makes This Club Special

It’s a Classic! This book is a world-renowned classic—a favorite for all ages!

Your Guide is a Professional Writer/Author and Seasoned Online Instructor. Ms. Conley is a professional writer, author, educator, and screenwriter who lived and worked in Hollywood—and when you sign up for this club, you get a professional, highly-skilled Guide who helps your teen explore reading on a deeper level—through both understanding story and how stories and books are written. With an educational and learning focus, we’ll explore the tricks of mystery stories and how authors keep readers in suspense.

It’s Educational. At the end of each class, we’ll discuss vocabulary challenge words found in the text, and your student will be given hints on what to look for next time, to help your student better solve the mystery with his or her own critical thinking. By the end of the club, students should have a better understanding of how to put together small details to see the bigger picture, have stronger critical thinking skills, and be able to use their greater vocabulary.
